Mechanism of action:
Azithromycin has a bacteriostatic effect by interfering with the protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome.
Indications:
Acute bacterial sinusitis.
Acute bacterial otitis media.
Pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
Mild to moderately severe community acquired pneumonia.
Infections of the skin and soft tissues of mild to moderate severity e.g. folliculitis, cellulitis, erysipelas.
